Ashton’s Angle: Purpose

What is my purpose?

The biggest question we all ask: What is my purpose?

Sometimes, I find myself asking…
What is my purpose as an entrepreneur?
As a daughter?
As a future wife?
As a Catholic?
As a friend?

It’s such a simple question, yet one of the hardest to answer. And here’s my truth—there is no single right answer.

Right now, at 4:37 PM, I’m walking on my treadmill, wrapping up my workday. At this moment, my purpose is to pour my thoughts onto this Google Doc, finish two more client postings, and rehearse my script for the webinar I’m leading tomorrow. These might seem like ordinary tasks, but there is purpose within them.

I’ve realized that instead of constantly questioning my overarching purpose in life and career, I need to shift my focus to the present moment—finding purpose in the task at hand.

My purpose is to chase my goals, to be present, and to embrace vulnerability. Because the truth is, at some moments in the day, I don’t know my purpose. I think back to sitting in my college apartment with just four clients, questioning everything. And now? I see how my purpose has evolved—and I choose to manifest where it will lead next.

In those uncertain moments, I step back, look around, and—just as Mel Robbins, New York Times bestselling author, motivational speaker, and media company CEO, reminds me—find the hearts. I ground myself in the now, using my problem-solving mind to cut through distractions and realign with my purpose.

Let’s stop walking past the details. Let’s stop saying no to opportunities. Instead, let’s find the purpose within them—and say yes.
